Description

The Spolnota high bar stool extends our bar seating to accommodate true bar heights and standing-work surfaces. Handcrafted in our Białka workshops from solid wood, this taller version (72 cm height) is properly scaled for bar-height counters, pub tables, and standing-height work surfaces that have become increasingly popular in modern kitchens and casual dining spaces. The additional height presents unique engineering challenges that our craftspeople address through careful proportioning, strategic bracing, and construction techniques refined over decades of furniture making. Constructed entirely from solid wood selected for grain straightness and structural performance, the stool employs turned-leg design with legs individually shaped on a lathe. The turning process for taller stools requires particular skill—the extended length creates more opportunities for slight irregularities to compound, and the longer legs experience greater leverage forces that demand optimal strength distribution. Our craftspeople orient grain for maximum strength, turn profiles that balance visual appeal with structural necessity, and select wood with appropriate density for the demanding application. The stretcher system connecting the legs becomes even more critical at this height, serving both structural and functional roles. Structurally, the stretchers tie the legs into a unified frame that resists the twisting and racking forces that taller stools experience. Functionally, the stretchers provide essential footrests positioned at comfortable heights for seated users—crucial for elevated seating where unsupported dangling feet would create discomfort and circulation problems. The stretcher positioning is carefully calculated to provide convenient footrest access regardless of which direction you're facing when seated. The round seat (30 cm diameter) maintains the same comfortable dimensions as the standard height version, providing adequate support without excessive bulk. The seat height relationship to the stretchers is carefully maintained despite the overall height increase, ensuring users can rest their feet comfortably while seated. The seat surface receives the same careful shaping and smoothing as all our furniture, creating a comfortable platform that distributes weight evenly while remaining easy to clean and maintain. The increased height creates greater leverage that amplifies any looseness or wobble in the joints, making precision joinery absolutely essential. Our craftspeople cut each mortise and tenon or drill each dowel hole with tolerances measured in fractions of millimeters, creating fits so tight that joints often must be persuaded into place during assembly. This precision, combined with quality adhesives and appropriate reinforcement, creates connections that remain tight and wobble-free through years of regular use. The base footprint is proportioned to provide stability appropriate to the height, preventing tipping even when users lean or shift weight. The finishing system adapted for indoor use protects the wood while showcasing its natural beauty, with particular attention paid to surfaces that experience the most contact and wear. Multiple coats are carefully applied with thorough sanding between layers, building protection that's both functional and attractive. The finish is food-safe and easy to maintain, appropriate for furniture used in dining and food preparation areas. The high bar stool embodies our commitment to creating furniture scaled appropriately for its intended use rather than forcing one size to serve all applications. Different counter heights require different seating heights, and using improperly scaled furniture creates discomfort and awkward positioning that degrades the dining or working experience. By offering bar stools at proper heights for both standard counters and true bar heights, we ensure customers can find seating that works correctly with their specific installations. Whether furnishing a home bar, equipping a kitchen with bar-height island seating, or providing stools for a pub table in a basement or entertainment area, the high bar stool delivers the elevation needed while maintaining the stability, comfort, and quality construction that define Spolnota furniture. Built to last for decades of daily use, crafted from solid wood by skilled artisans, and finished to protect and beautify, this stool represents elevated seating done right—where increased height doesn't compromise stability, where simple design reflects sophisticated engineering, and where traditional construction techniques prove their continued relevance.
