Description
The Spolnota swivel stool represents adaptable seating that combines traditional woodworking with functional mechanisms for height adjustment and rotation. Handcrafted in our Białka workshops with solid wood components and a central screw-adjustment system, this stool provides seating that adapts to different users, different tasks, and different surface heights. At approximately 70x30 cm (with the height adjustable through a range), this stool serves workshops, craft areas, piano practice, or any application where adjustable, rotating seating enhances functionality. The base construction uses solid wood shaped into substantial feet that spread outward to create a stable footprint resistant to tipping. The tripod or four-point base design distributes weight effectively while keeping the overall footprint manageable—important for seating that must fit into workshops or craft areas where floor space is premium. The feet are carefully shaped and smoothed, with the grain oriented to maximize strength against the forces that adjustable seating experiences. The connection points where feet meet the central column receive particular attention during construction, as these joints bear significant stress. The central column houses the height-adjustment mechanism—typically a threaded rod (screw) that the seat assembly rises and falls upon as the seat is rotated. This time-tested design provides reliable height adjustment without complex mechanical parts or hydraulics that might fail. The wooden threads or metal hardware (depending on specific model) are engineered for smooth operation and lasting durability, maintaining adjustment capability through years of regular use. The range of height adjustment allows the stool to serve users of different statures and accommodate various work surface heights. The rotating seat functionality adds versatility that fixed seating cannot match—the ability to swivel to access tools, materials, or different work areas without rising from the stool. This rotation capability is particularly valuable in workshops where you might work at a central bench but need to reach tool storage, materials, or equipment positioned around you. The rotation mechanism uses simple but effective bearing surfaces or hardware that allow smooth spinning while maintaining stability when seated. The mechanism is designed to operate reliably through decades of use without requiring maintenance or developing wobble. The round seat is shaped from solid wood, with dimensions providing comfortable support for extended sitting. The seat may feature slight contouring or a crowned profile that helps distribute weight comfortably while providing enough grip to prevent sliding during normal use. The seat surface is thoroughly smoothed and finished to create pleasant contact that won't snag clothing. The connection between the seat and the adjustment mechanism is engineered to be both solid (preventing wobble) and functional (allowing smooth rotation and height change). The entire stool receives appropriate finishing that protects the wood while maintaining functionality—surfaces that contact the floor must resist wear, the seat must be comfortable and cleanable, and mechanical components must operate smoothly. The finish showcases the natural wood beauty while providing the protection needed for what is often workshop or utility furniture subject to rougher use than dining furniture. The swivel stool embodies our belief that utility furniture deserves quality construction even when it won't be displayed in formal living spaces. Workshop seating, craft area stools, and adjustable work seats often get built as cheaply as possible since they're viewed as tools rather than furniture. We reject this compromise—well-made seating enhances productivity, comfort, and safety in work environments just as surely as in dining rooms. By applying solid wood construction and traditional techniques to adjustable utility seating, we create stools that last for decades while serving reliably. Whether furnishing a workshop, equipping a craft room, providing adjustable piano practice seating, or creating flexible workspace seating, the swivel stool delivers adaptability combined with the durability and quality that define all Spolnota products.
